Laboratory Tech General Inter
The University Of Michigan College Of Pharmacy has a full-time opening for a laboratory technician in its Pharmacokinetics and Mass Spectrometry Core Facility (PKMS, www.pkcore.org). The Sun & Pharmacokinetics and Mass Spectrometry (PKMS) laboratory is looking for a highly motivated and energetic Research Laboratory Technician General Intermediate for a full-time position. This is an exciting opportunity to support highly collaborative research projects on drug discovery, nanomedicine and pharmacokinetics.
Technical Functions:
- Perform routine sample preparation, including extraction and dilution, for LC-MS/MS analysis.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain LC-MS/MS instrumentation, performing daily checks and basic troubleshooting.
- Microsomal and plasma stability testing using LC-MS: Will develop, design and conduct liver microsomal and plasma stability experiments in line with the overall research plan, review progress and evaluate results (with supervision from the PI and senior members of the laboratory).
- Quantitative LC-MS analysis of compounds in biological matrix of preclinical samples: Will be a contributor to multi-disciplinary project teams supporting early discovery programs through establishing LCMS-based assays to enable the discovery and development of high-quality small molecule therapeutics (with supervision from the PI and senior members of the laboratory).
- Clinical biological sample analysis including plasma and biological fluids: Will entail establishing robust sample preparation protocols and developing targeted MS acquisition methods suited for quantitative analysis of small molecular analytes within complex mixtures derived from biological matrices (with supervision from the PI and senior members of the laboratory).
- May help to handle small animal for PK dosing and sample collection. Administer test articles to rodents via various routes, such as oral gavage (PO), intraperitoneal (IP), subcutaneous (SC), or intravenous (IV) injections. Then Collecting biological samples animals, including blood and tissue.
- Monitor and document animal health, behavior, and body weight according to established protocols.
Lab management function:
- Help organize the lab's physical space, including reorganizing common areas and optimizing sample storage.
- Manage animal protocols by assisting with documentation, renewals, and amendments.
- Manage animal ordering and serve as the primary liaison with the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM).
- Oversee lab compliance with key regulations, including those from the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and guidelines for handling hazardous materials.
- Order, inventory, and track stock reagents, lab supplies, and consumables.
Requirements:
- BS or MS degree in chemistry, biology, pharmaceutical sciences, or other related fields.
- 3-5 years of experience in the area of specialization.
- Animal handling especially in mice with different genetic background.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work effectively within a team and with external partners.
