LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
Position Number: S-3833
Position Summary:
This position works directly with Dr. Peter Dijkstra and his team to study behavioral decision making, social competition, and stress resilience in fish.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience in the performance of standard laboratory procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree.
- Reasonable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in laboratory activities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conducts physiological assays, including mitochondrial respiration, redox/oxidative stress measurements, and hormone analyses, ensuring high data quality and reproducibility.
- Manages daily laboratory operations, including scheduling, workflow coordination, and maintaining a safe, efficient research environment.
- Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment, coordinate calibrations and service contracts, and ensure proper instrument performance.
- Maintains reagents and consumables supplies.
- Develops, maintains, and enforces standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with institutional safety, biosafety, and regulatory guidelines.
- Trains and supervises students and staff in laboratory techniques, safety practices, and proper data collection and documentation.
