Laborer (2 Positions)
About the Position
The Facilities Development & Operations department provides general maintenance and cleaning services across campus, supports special event set-up and take-down, assists with minor furniture-moving projects, and secures buildings and equipment from unauthorized access. The Laborer position is responsible for special event set-up and take-down; loading and unloading furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials; removing and hauling waste and recyclables from central aggregation areas and event or clean-up sites; and performing a variety of manual labor duties. Laborers perform tasks such as moving heavy furniture, equipment, and materials; cleaning assigned areas, including removing construction debris; cleaning gutters, culverts, drainage structures, roadsides, and streets; power washing; cleaning equipment; and supporting special cleaning projects. They assist crafts and construction workers with unskilled tasks, including preparing work areas, rough repairs, tearing down structures, patching pavement, and performing pick-and-shovel work. Additional duties include grounds maintenance (pruning, trimming, spraying, removing undergrowth and debris, and preparing areas with hand tools), operating and performing basic preventive maintenance on hand and powered tools and equipment, and, in some cases, driving a motor vehicle to transport and deliver materials.

Responsibilities
Moving Services
- Moving, loading and unloading furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies

- Install and remove flooring tarps.
- Communicate as needed with requesting department for specific event set-up details
Removing and hauling waste and recyclables from areas of central aggregation

Minimum Qualifications
Abilities:
- Ability to read and write English at a level appropriate for the duties of the position.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety.
- Ability to perform regular strenuous manual labor and safely move heavy items in excess of 50 pounds.
Certificates & Licenses
- Valid California Driver’s License
- Complete the defensive driving training
Required Qualifications
- Ability to safely lift (50) pounds on a regular and consistent basis.
- Occasional contact with hazardous waste materials.
- Ability to safely lift and move tables, chairs and small furniture.
- Continuous walking, bending, squatting, and twisting.
Salary and Benefits
PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $3,461.00 per month (Step 1) to $4,137.00 per month (Step 10).
