Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking a Coordinator to support the Landscape Technology program. The Coordinator works closely with the faculty to support the students in the LAT program. In this role, the Coordinator is responsible for setting up and leading lab classroom spaces, performing landscape maintenance activities and maintaining equipment. They also manage the LAT greenhouse and may work directly with students. This is a dynamic position and one that requires strong problem solving skills, the ability to collaborate and an attention towards supporting students.

The Coordinator supports the instructional activities in the Landscape Technology program through collaborating with program faculty. The Coordinator leads part-time student workers in maintaining the indoor and outdoor classroom spaces and is responsible for daily cleanliness and security of the work areas. The Coordinator also maintains equipment and performs regular grounds management activities for the LAT department. The Coordinator works with internal departments, external contractors and vendors and community partners to support LAT goals.

The principle accountabilities includes:

  • Support the LAT courses through purchasing supplies, setting up tools and other lab materials, assisting with supervising labs and cleanup.
  • Perform and coordinate maintenance of the LAT grounds. This includes weed management and it is expected that the coordinator will obtain a pesticide applicator license within 3 months of hire as a part of an IPM program.
  • Leads part-time student workers and contractors who work in the LAT grounds.
  • Monitor building spaces for necessary maintenance to keep the spaces clean, organized and safe for staff and students.
  • Monitor the greenhouse performance, which includes irrigation, heating and cooling and pests.
  • Purchase and perform routine maintenance on landscaping equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned like participating on a safety committee.
  • Implement projects as determined by the department.

How We Determine Initial Salary Placement

In your application materials please address how your experience and skills align with the success criteria listed below.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Landscape Technology, Horticulture, or related discipline or equivalent experience in the field.
  • Two years (2) experience working in the landscape industry; performing landscape maintenance, operating and performing minor troubleshooting for landscape equipment, installing and working with irrigation systems or managing properties.

Success Criteria:

  • Demonstrate an ability to support students/classes/labs/workshops with safe facilities, tools, equipment, materials, purchasing and hands-on supervising.
  • Experience performing grounds management duties including scheduling and prioritizing seasonal tasks, knowledge of plants and safe operation of tools and equipment.
  • Experience with organizing, maintaining and keeping records associated with the management of landscape equipment and facilities.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and intercultural skills with the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals and departments/groups both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrate an ability to solve problems and take initiative.
  • Demonstrate an ability to obtain pesticide applicator license within 3 months of hire.
