Language Lecturer in Sanskrit

The Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies aims to appoint a Language Lecturer in Sanskrit for two years to provide teaching in Sanskrit language and Sanskrit texts to both undergraduate and graduate students. This role will contribute to the design and development of teaching and elements of courses, as well as undertaking administration and examining where required. The Lecturer will join the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, where they will be a member of the Inner and South Asian Studies Subject Group.

You will have a high-level command of Sanskrit as well as a native or equivalent command of English, and a first degree (or a relevant higher degree) in Sanskrit language, language pedagogy, or applied linguistics. You will bring experience of teaching Sanskrit in a university setting; excellent communication and workload management skills; and a commitment to promoting dynamic and effective language teaching.

This position is based in central Oxford. This is a full-time, fixed-term position commencing on 1st September 2026 or as soon as possible after that.
