Required Qualifications
Must be a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively within a team setting and be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the work place. Receive and convey information and instructions to senior veterinary students, clinical faculty, and technical staff. Recognize needs and establish priorities, care and concern for large animal patients. Be able to make sound emergency decisions concerning the health and safety of both humans and animals. Administer drugs and pharmaceuticals by all acceptable routes of administration to large animals. Knowledge of: Large animal anatomy, physiology and etiology; knowledge of CPR and animal restraint methods. Have considerable experience handling large farm animals. Proficiency in the operation, maintenance, and application of medical equipment; IV pumps, heart monitors, centrifuge, ultrasound, laser, endoscopes, hoists, slings, nebulizer, and glucometer. Must be able to safely move and handle 75 pounds. Ability to work for long periods of time standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, and pushing/pulling. Must be able to tolerate rabies prophylaxis.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of basic nursing skills, veterinary pharmaceuticals, the application and operation of sophisticated surgical, medical, and diagnostic equipment. Knowledge of large animal surgical and medical procedures, anatomy, etiology and physiology. Experience at working in a veterinary medical setting. Experience in a large animal practice environment, ability to work well with others and individually in an academic setting. Experience working with veterinary software such as ezyVet and Vet Radar.
