Lecturer - American History
Job Summary
The College of Arts & Sciences seeks a Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses in core-curriculum survey courses in United States history with the option for upper-division courses in their area of specialty. Successful candidates must demonstrate proven excellence in teaching at the college or university level, are expected to engage students in research and/or creative activities. This non-tenure track faculty position, based in the Department of History & Geography, is a 10-month academic year position.
Responsibilities
Faculty - Teaching/Instructing: Full-time instructional load teaching (5 courses) in areas of expertise within the academic discipline. Regular course meetings and instruction. Mentoring students. Other teaching responsibilities. Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline. Faculty also contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses.
Faculty - Service to Institution: All faculty are expected to help the department in recruiting majors. Faculty members are expected to attend Department meetings and events.
Faculty - Professional Development: Faculty are expected to stay current in their field.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements: Terminal degree in a closely related field. Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements as stated in C.S. 3.7.1.
Required Experience: Some teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience: Instructor of record for college level classes in the related discipline. Record of scholarly activity, publications, or creative works.

Accreditation standards (SACSCOC and discipline-specific). Academic policies, procedures, and ethics. Adult learning principles and adaptive learning styles. Educational technology and learning management systems.
SKILLS: Teaching: Course design and delivery. Learning activity development and facilitation. Technology integration and LMS proficiency. Instructional adaptation. Assessment: Valid assessment instrument development. Constructive feedback provision. Data analysis for instructional improvement. Communication: Clear verbal and written communication. Professional presentation abilities. Active listening and collaboration. Technology: Discipline-relevant software proficiency. Multimedia and presentation tools. Basic troubleshooting capabilities.
