Swinburne University of Technology is seeking a Lecturer, Applied Innovation to join Design Factory Melbourne (DFM) - a globally connected innovation hub operating at the intersection of academia and industry.
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of applied, interdisciplinary education and research, contributing to Swinburne’s bold Ad Astra 2030 strategy and its focus on innovative, learner-centred pathways and industry-integrated experiences.
At DFM, you will play a key role in building the next generation of innovation capability, designing and delivering hands-on, studio-based learning experiences grounded in real-world industry challenges. Working across undergraduate, postgraduate and industry-facing programs, you’ll bring together students, researchers and partners to co-create impactful, future-focused outcomes.
We’re seeking an academic with expertise in applied innovation, design-led or business-led learning, and a passion for experiential, work-integrated teaching. You will contribute to teaching, curriculum development and applied research, blending academic rigour with practical innovation methodologies.
Beyond teaching, you’ll have the opportunity to flex your innovation and engagement expertise, contributing to DFM’s suite of innovation services and products, including collaboration with startups and industry partners. You will help extend DFM’s impact through applied research and co-created innovation initiatives aligned to Swinburne’s future-focused ambitions.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Demonstrated experience in teaching in a university setting.
- Demonstrated leadership or team coordination experience in higher education, including experience contributing to course teams, fostering a collaborative working environment, and supporting the delivery and enhancement of undergraduate curricula in alignment with institutional goals. (Desirable)
- Demonstrated capability to contribute to teaching a range of undergraduate and postgraduate innovation based unit offerings.
- Demonstrated commitment to research in the university context including high quality publications (Desirable)
Qualifications
- A PHD tertiary qualification aligned to innovation methodology or equivalent demonstrated experience.
