Continuing Position – Full-Time Opportunity
The Discipline of Physics at the University of Adelaide is seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in High-Energy Astrophysics. This continuing position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to both undergraduate teaching and internationally recognised research in a dynamic academic environment.
The University hosts a leading Australian group in high-energy astrophysics, with strong involvement in major international collaborations such as the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO), the High Energy Stereoscopic System (HESS), and an expanding focus on IceCube. We welcome applicants whose research aligns with or enhances our existing strengths in ground-based gamma-ray astronomy and multi-messenger astrophysics.
Teaching Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery and coordination of a range of core undergraduate courses, including:
- Astronomy I
- Physics III
- Atmospheric & Astrophysics III
- Classical Physics II
Additional responsibilities include involvement in Honours-level teaching and student assessment.
Position Details & Requirements
Lecturer (Level B)
Salary: $107,276 – $126,894 per annum + 17% superannuation
Essential Criteria – Level B
- A PhD in high-energy astrophysics or a closely related field
- A strong research profile aligned with ground-based gamma-ray astronomy, data analysis, and result interpretation
- Proven publication record in leading journals
- Commitment to high-quality undergraduate education
- Experience or enthusiasm for graduate student supervision
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and work effectively in teams
- Advanced analytical and computational skills, including machine learning, numerical and symbolic computation
Senior Lecturer (Level C)
Salary: $130,810 – $150,431 per annum + 17% superannuation
Additional Criteria – Level C
- Demonstrated experience in successful grant applications
- Proven excellence in undergraduate teaching delivery
- Track record of graduate student supervision
- Strong academic leadership potential
- Outstanding research output and collaboration record
- Advanced proficiency in machine learning and computational methods
