The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a non-renewable, full-time Lecturer position that is a 9-month service basis paid over 12 months, in Geotechnical Engineering. This is a non-tenure-track, benefits-eligible position with primary responsibilities in teaching.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in geotechnical engineering. Teaching load for this 9-month appointment is expected to be 3 to 4 courses with a maximum of 2 courses per semester.

The CEE department is committed to building a culturally inclusive educational environment. We are seeking faculty who can teach in geotechnical engineering while contributing to the excellence in our programs and courses through their teaching.

Faculty and students at Illinois benefit from access to world-class experimental and computational facilities across campus, including: Advanced Materials Testing and Evaluation Laboratory, Aerodynamics Research Laboratory, the Coordinated Science Laboratory, the Center for Hypersonics and Entry Systems Studies, Materials Research Laboratory, Holonyak Micro & Nanotechnology Lab, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications.

A doctoral degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on geotechnical engineering is required at the start date of August 16, 2026. Successful candidates must have four (4) years of geotechnical research or engineering experience; and at least one (1) year of teaching or teaching assistant experience. The budgeted salary range for the position is $65,000 - $75,000, for a 9-month service basis paid over 12 months. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
