About the opportunity
The Broken Hill Rural Clinical School (RCS), also known as the Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health (UDRH), is funded under the Commonwealth Department of Health's Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program.
Our focus at the BHUDRH is to lead the design and delivery of innovative teaching and learning environments for medical, nursing and allied health students undertaking their placement in our region. We also actively work to improve the quality of health care for rural, remote and First Nations Peoples by fostering local and regional collaborations and enhancing national expertise in rural and remote health research and the translation of research into policy and practice.
Our team is distributed across the far west, north and south western regions of New South Wales. We are committed to providing the best educational experiences and supporting pertinent research in order to support the growth and development of rural Australia.
We are seeking a Lecturer (Clinical Education) - Allied Health to be based at our Bourke campus.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- undertake independent teaching coaching of students within a simulated or real clinical setting, applying clinical experience and expertise to inform best practice teaching. This role will support placements for North West region allied health students
- engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences (at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level) which meet the University's expectations and standards for education-focused staff
- develop teaching, subject and assessment materials under the supervision of more senior clinicians or academic staff
- apply clinical knowledge and expertise to innovate teaching and learning, including developing resources and innovative practices
- informally provide mentoring and guidance to students, role modelling effective patient interaction and care
- provide training and support to other academic staff on effective, innovative and contemporary clinical practice
- actively represent the University in partner organisations, clinical settings, and the community, maintaining productive links between the university and clinical or industry partners
- develop and evaluate assessment materials which align with best practice under the supervision of more senior academic staff within the School/ Faculty
- demonstrate impact through improving student outcomes, experiences and learning
- contribute to the strategic direction of the Faculty/ School as articulated through the Faculty/ School's Strategic Plan/s or equivalent
About you
- Bachelors degree or postgraduate qualifications - In a relevant field (for example physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, dietetics) or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- current registration or equivalent in a health discipline
- proven experience in clinical teaching and learning
- deep and broad experience in teaching and learning in a tertiary environment, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings
- demonstrated understanding of contemporary clinical teaching practices and effective curriculum design
- proven experience working within the relevant industry or clinical setting
- proven experience supervising and mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities
- developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
- experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities
- demonstrated capacity to stimulate, actively engage and educate an audience using a range of media
- currently living or ability to relocate to the Bourke campus region of the BHUDRH-includes Bourke, Brewarrina, Lightning Ridge, Walgett, and Cobar-and any surrounding townships.
- current drivers licence
