Within the School, the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences delivers a highly regarded Doctor of Optometry program alongside Higher Degree by Research training. The Department is committed to graduating socially accountable clinicians and researchers who deliver culturally safe, person-centred care.
Clinical education is central to the program, delivered through a distributed network of teaching clinics and community partnerships across Western Australia, including rural, remote and Aboriginal community-controlled health services.
About the opportunity
We are seeking a passionate and motivated optometrist to join our academic team, contributing to high-quality teaching, clinical supervision, and community engagement.
In this role, you will:
- Deliver clinical teaching and provide hands-on supervision, supporting students to develop strong clinical, diagnostic and communication skills.
- Contribute to community-based education, including outreach clinics and placements within Aboriginal community-controlled health services, promoting culturally safe and responsive care.
- Support curriculum delivery, unit coordination, student assessment and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues to enhance student learning through innovative teaching approaches, including digital and simulated learning environments.
- Engage in practice-based research, contributing to scholarship in areas such as clinical education, rural workforce development and equitable models of care.
- Build and maintain partnerships with community organisations, healthcare providers and professional bodies to strengthen clinical education and service delivery.
