Job Summary

The College of Arts & Sciences seeks a Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses in first-year writing in the liberal arts tradition. These lecturers will primarily teach sections of ENGL 1101 (introduction to academic writing) and ENGL 1102 (introduction to research writing) with the occasional opportunity to teach introductory literature courses. These lecturers will join an active team of faculty committed to developing a strong First-Year Writing Program and culture of writing across the university.

This non-tenure track faculty position, based in the Department of English, is a 10-month academic year position.

Responsibilities

• Faculty - Teaching/Instructing - Teaching Responsibilities: Full-time instructional load teaching (5 courses) in areas of expertise within the academic discipline; Regular course meetings and instruction; Mentoring Students; Other teaching responsibilities. Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.
• Faculty also contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses. All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.
• Faculty - Service to Institution - All faculty are expected to help the department in recruiting majors. Faculty members are expected to attend Department meetings and events.
• Faculty - Professional Development - Faculty are expected to stay current in their field.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements Terminal degree in a closely related field. Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements as stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials)).

Required Experience Some teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies is highly desirable.

Preferred Experience Instructor of record for college level classes in the related discipline; Record of scholarly activity, publications, or creative works.
