Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
We invite applications for a Lecturer in Law whose teaching and research focus on legal issues in the Pacific region.
As a Lecturer, you will contribute to the delivery of both core and elective courses within the Law programme, support ongoing curriculum development, and undertake research aligned with the Faculty’s priorities. You will be encouraged to develop a strong research profile, pursue doctoral completion where relevant, and begin supervising student research projects under the guidance and mentorship of senior colleagues.
In this role, you will play a vital part in fostering cultural competence and confidence in line with the University’s and Faculty’s Pacific Strategy. You will help deepen understanding of the experiences and perspectives of Pacific and other ethnic communities within the legal system. Strengthening relationships with local, national, and international Pacific stakeholders will be a key focus, ensuring that the programme maintains global relevance and impact.
Collaboration with colleagues across the Faculty and the wider University is expected, including contributions to interdisciplinary initiatives. You will be supported to pursue a robust and externally funded research agenda with high impact, while contributing to the University’s overall strategic goals. Active engagement with local communities will also form an essential part of your academic practice.
Mōu | Who You Are
We are seeking candidates who demonstrate the following:
Preferably a Doctorate in Law, a Masters’ degree in Law, may be considered
A developing research profile
Experience or expertise in the justice sector and/or a background in law in relation to Pacific communities
Demonstrated understanding of Pacific communities in New Zealand and the Pacific Island countries evidence by working with those communities or subset of those communities
A strong commitment to excellence in teaching, including the delivery of core and elective courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
Experience or readiness to deliver high-quality online and distance education that supports diverse learners.

This role sits within the Academic Staff, Associated Staff and Academic Support Staff Collective Agreement and the following salary scale applies, Lecturer scale – 2.01 $94,181 – 2.06 $113,616.
