About the Role
Swinburne University of Technology is seeking a Lecturer in Fashion Design to join our vibrant School of Design and Architecture (SoDA). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of Australia’s most industry engaged fashion programs and shape the next generation of fashion designers.
As a Lecturer in Fashion Design, you will play a key role in delivering and evolving our Bachelor of Design (Fashion) program. You will teach across core fashion design areas including sewing, pattern making, draping, garment construction, sustainability and digital fashion technologies, while contributing to curriculum development, research, and industry engagement.
You will join an interdisciplinary academic environment and work closely with colleagues, students and industry partners to ensure graduates are creative, technically skilled and industry ready.
About the course
Swinburne’s Bachelor of Design (Fashion) is a hands on, studio-based degree that emphasises real world industry briefs, work integrated learning and emerging fashion technologies. Students develop skills in trend forecasting, collection development, garment construction, sustainable and ethical design, and digital and wearable technologies, supported by strong industry connections and access to advanced facilities at our Hawthorn campus.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high quality lectures, studios and tutorials in undergraduate Fashion Design units
- Lead and develop curriculum that reflects current and emerging fashion practices and technologies, including digital design tools such as Clo3D
- Contribute to research activity in areas such as digital fashion, textile technologies and sustainable practice
- Build and maintain strong industry partnerships to enrich teaching, learning and research
- Support student learning, assessment and work integrated learning opportunities
- Contribute to academic leadership, administration and a collaborative school culture aligned with Swinburne’s values
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Demonstrated expertise in fashion design fundamentals, including sewing, garment construction, pattern making and CAD
- Strong capability with industry standard software such as Clo3D, StyleCAD and Adobe Creative Suite
- Emerging or established research capability and an interest in industry engaged or practice based research
- Strong industry networks and the ability to integrate professional practice into teaching
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
Qualifications
A doctoral qualification in Fashion Design or a related field, or equivalent professional practice
