  • Salary: Academic Level B pro-rata rates $61,663.50 – $72,812.50 plus 17% Super & Leave Loading (Pro-rata).

Support high-quality teaching and research in Film within the School of Arts at Western Sydney University.

The Opportunity

You will teach into the School of Arts within the Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts, Business, Education, and Law (SABEL), with a primary focus on the Creative Production and Performance discipline. You will coordinate, design, deliver and evaluate Film units, including assessment and feedback, and contribute to curriculum development that supports student learning across undergraduate programs.

You will contribute to Film as an important and developing area within the School, combining critical, historical, theoretical and professional skills with creative approaches to cinema and contemporary screen culture. You will maintain a research profile through research-led and/or practice-led outputs, contribute to scholarship of teaching and learning, and support Honours and higher degree research activity through supervision and the identification and development of HDR candidates.

You will strengthen the Film program’s outward-facing engagement by building and maintaining relationships with screen and media industries, festivals, cultural institutions and relevant professional networks. You will contribute to the ongoing consolidation and strategic positioning of Film within the School through high-quality teaching, research, industry engagement and collegial collaboration, including participation in School, Faculty and University service activities.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Film units are coordinated and delivered with clear assessment and timely feedback.
  • Curriculum is developed and improved to support undergraduate learning and progression.
  • Research-led and/or practice-led outputs are produced and disseminated in quality outlets.
  • Research students are supervised effectively and HDR candidates are identified and supported.
  • Industry and cultural partnerships are strengthened to support the Film program’s direction.

About You

  • You will hold a PhD (or equivalent professional experience and artistic distinction) in Film, Screen Media, or a closely related discipline
  • You will demonstrate strong university-level teaching experience, with the ability to deliver engaging learning informed by your research and/or creative practice
  • You will have an emerging or established research and creative practice profile, with outputs including publications and/or recognised creative works (e.g. NTROs)
  • You will bring expertise in creative practice within film and screen media, with strengths in relevant areas such as production, storytelling, theory, global cinemas, or emerging media
  • You will be able to integrate critical and theoretical perspectives with creative practice in your teaching and research
  • You will have experience supervising undergraduate research or creative projects, with capacity to contribute to Honours and HDR supervision.
  • An emerging or established connection to industry, cultural institutions, or professional networks will be highly regarded
