About the opportunity

The Broken Hill Rural Clinical School (RCS), also known as the Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health (UDRH), is funded under the Commonwealth Department of Health's Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program.

Our focus at the BHUDRH, is to lead the design and delivery of innovative teaching and learning environments for health students undertaking their placement in our region. We also actively work to improve the quality of health care for rural, remote and First Nations Peoples by fostering local and regional collaborations and enhancing national expertise in health research and the translation of research into policy and practice.

Our team is distributed across three campuses Broken Hill, Wentworth and Bourke regions of New South Wales.

We are seeking a Lecturer - First Nations Academic to support teaching and placements for Broken Hill and Wentworth region students. You will also assist the Senior Lecturer- First Nations Lead in the BHUDRH region in fostering collaborative cross-sector First Nations community and organisational relationships ensuring that all interactions and engagements with First Nations communities are conducted with respect, authenticity and sensitivity.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Build and maintain a reputation for academic excellence through independent and innovative contributions to research and education, expanding knowledge and practice in the First Nations ways of knowing, being and doing.
  • Coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the university's expectations and standards for education, including cultural supervision.
  • Coordinate local cultural activities, provide training and mentorship to health students and fellow academics.
  • Provide contributions that have a significant impact on teaching, innovation, curriculum development, research training and supervision within the school or faculty.
  • Contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled.
  • Understand and contribute to furthering the university and BHUDRH strategic agenda.
  • Establish partnerships, collaborations and engage in impactful outcomes in research, development, and policy improvement.
  • Undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required.

About you

  • deep understanding of rural, remote and First Nations cultural engagement, needs, and aspirations
  • Currently living or willing to relocate to our Broken Hill with the ability to travel frequently to Wentworth

Education

  • Doctorate or PhD - In a relevant field OR
  • Other - An equivalent combination of relevant training and experience

Only one Field of Study needs to apply. The Education requirements should be considered in conjunction with the Work Experience requirements.
