Position Summary
The Health Department at SUNY Cortland is seeking a full-time
lecturer in School Health. The Health Department housed in the
School of Professional Studies, offers school health education
programs at the bachelor’s and master’s degree levels accredited by
the Associate for Advancing quality in educator preparation ( AAQEP
), national accreditation in school health through the society for
public health education ( SOPHE ), a CEPH accredited undergraduate
program in public health, a human services program, and Health care
management undergraduate degree. The Health Department offers
robust learning experience embedded in its programs and a strong
commitment to student-centered learning.
Starting Salary: $52,838

Major Responsibilities
- Teach courses in the undergraduate and graduate school health
programs.
- Supervise student teachers.
- Assist with program assessment activities for the maintenance
of accreditation.
- Advise and mentor health education students.
- Work with the school partnerships coordinator and the field
experience on placement of teacher candidates into student teaching
and field experiences.
Provide service to the Health Department.
Future potential to serve as the department’s primary liaison
to the Office of Field Experience and School Partnerships and lead
instructor for EDU 499 Student Teaching in Health Education,
overseeing supervisor hiring, training, and student-teacher support
throughout the placement process.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in health or related area
- School health teacher certification
- At least 3 years’ experience as a school health teacher at the
primary and/or secondary level
Preferred Qualifications
- New York teacher certification in school health
- Recent public school teaching experience in health
- Experience teaching diverse and disadvantaged students
- Involvement as a member of a state and/or national professional
association related to school health education
- On going engagement in professional development activities
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Organizational and time management skills
