The Architectural Studies Program at Amherst College, which is housed in the college's Department of Art and the History of Art, invites applications for a full-time position as a lecturer in the area of architectural design, with the appointment to begin on July 1, 2026. The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of five courses per academic year, and contribute to an interdisciplinary program whose faculty offer courses in architectural history, sustainable design, urban planning, historic preservation, and theory and criticism.

We seek a colleague who is passionate about, and has experience, teaching architectural design in a liberal arts college setting. The primary teaching responsibilities of this position are the following: an introductory architectural design studio; an intermediary architectural design studio; and additional studios, lectures, or seminars particular to the candidate's areas of specialization. The successful candidate will also advise senior capstone and honors students. As a valued colleague, the candidate will take part in major advising and make other important contributions to the life of the Architectural Studies Program, the department, and the college. The candidate will also participate in the meetings and activities of the Five College Architectural Studies Council, which brings together the faculty of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

This is a full-time, non-tenure track appointment with an initial three-year term and the possibility of renewal for an additional three-year term as a lecturer, which may be followed by five-year renewable appointments as a senior lecturer. Reappointment and promotion are contingent upon positive reviews of teaching and mentorship.

The successful candidate must have an M.Arch (master of architecture) degree, NAAB-accredited or equivalent, by the start of the appointment.
