Position Description

The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations seeks applications for a Lecturer in Armenian. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1st, 2026. The Lecturer will be responsible for teaching four courses in Armenian language, literature, and culture per academic year, organizing and participating in extracurricular activities, and regularly updating course materials. Administrative duties include participating in departmental and program activities and may include training and supervising of teaching assistants or teaching fellows. The position is for three years, with the second two years contingent on a satisfactory performance review during the first year.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate in Armenian Studies or related discipline is required by the time the appointment begins. The successful applicant should have experience in teaching Armenian language courses at all levels, as well as teaching specialized topics in Armenian language, literature or culture, and have native or near-native proficiency in Armenian. Specialists in Classical Armenian, Modern Western Armenian, Modern Eastern Armenian, or a combination thereof, are welcome to apply. The successful candidate should also have extensive experience teaching undergraduates and graduate students, as well as extensive experience using and designing proficiency-based, culturally-rich, learner-centered, and communicative approaches to teaching. The successful candidate will be committed to ongoing professional development and course-material development.

Additional Qualifications

Proven experience working collaboratively and in coordination with faculty and administration. Experienced in organizing cultural programming and events. Well versed in incorporating technology in instruction. Experience teaching specialized topics (e.g., film, literature, media).

  6. Salary Range

The salary range for lecturer positions will be $70,300 to $72,900.

Pay offered to the selected candidate is dependent on factors such as years of experience, training or qualification, field of scholarship, and accomplishments in the field.
