Lecturer in Biomedical Science

The University of South Wales is appointing a Lecturer in Biomedical Science. Working as a member of the Biological and Forensic Science subject area, you will be part of the larger Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science.

Based at the Pontypridd campus, with some overseas travel and work required, as noted below, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and deliver learning materials, and theoretical and applied experiences with a particular focus on applied biochemistry and cell biology. Research experience in neuroscience or regenerative medicine would be desirable, but not essential.

A significant component of this role will be to deliver taught and practical content on the faculty’s overseas partnership with Northwest Normal University (Lanzhou, Gansu Province of the People's Republic of China). The successful candidate will be required to periodically travel and work overseas, delivering teaching (English medium) in their subject area at key points of the year, to students studying BSc Medicinal and Biological Chemistry. The candidate will need to possess strong mentoring and pastoral care skills. The experience of working/teaching overseas will be an advantage, as will working in a multicultural environment.

In addition, the candidate will also be required to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate students across the subject areas, including the design and delivery of undergraduate research projects in their field. The successful candidate will continue to engage with professional development ensuring their subject knowledge and their teaching practices remain up-to-date and encompass best practice.

In addition to student interfacing activities, the role will require engagement in various academic administration processes related to quality assurance and enhancement, as well as engagement by the candidate in marketing and recruitment activities.

In line with USW’s 2030 Strategy the successful candidate would be expected to be involved in research and scholarly activity (which may be professional practice-based), and would continue this engagement to deliver evidence, practice, and/or research-based learning within the curriculum. It is expected that the candidate would engage with the activities of the accelerated development area of health and well-being and seek to collaborate internally and externally on relevant projects.

The successful candidate will join a well-established team of staff in the subject area of Biological and Forensic Science and become part of the wider scientific community within the Faculty.

This position is based at the Pontypridd (Glyntaff) Campus of the University of South Wales, with periods of overseas work.

The terms and conditions of the post (including grade and salary) will be those of the University of South Wales.
