Lecturer in Canadian Literature and First-Year Writing
The Department of English and Cultural Studies within the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan Campus invites applications for a full-time, one-year Lecturer position in Canadian Literature and First-Year Writing, with an expected start date of September 1, 2026, or mutually agreed time.
Preference will be given to applicants with a PhD in the field and with experience teaching at the post-secondary level. ABD files or files with considerable teaching experience will also be considered. Teaching will consist of eight sections per year, with one or two sections taught in the summer terms. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Canadian literature courses at the second, third and fourth year level, along with first-year literature-composition courses. Expertise teaching across genres in settler Canadian literature, along with experience in teaching first-year writing, will be required. The successful candidate’s course load will likely include ENGL 222: Literature in Canada, ENGL 333: Canadian Fiction, and ENGL 470: Canadian Studies (a topics course), along with sections of first-year English. Delivery modes are normally in-person. While this is primarily a teaching position, lecturers are also expected to participate fully in the affairs of their departments and may fulfill service obligations to the University and community, including regular attendance at meetings and participation in the activities of the program, as well as
