Lecturer in Children’s Nursing

The University of Cumbria is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Lecturer in Children’s Nursing to join our expanding academic team. This is an exciting opportunity to support the education of future children’s nurses while contributing to innovative nursing programmes that respond to the needs of healthcare services and communities.

You will contribute to teaching and learning across a range of programmes including MSc Nursing, BSc Nursing, Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship and Nursing Associate programmes. Working collaboratively with colleagues and practice partners, you will help deliver high-quality teaching, support students’ professional development and contribute to curriculum innovation.

As a Lecturer in Children’s Nursing, you will:

  • Deliver engaging teaching in a range of settings including lectures, seminars and skills sessions
  • Contribute to module leadership and curriculum development
  • Support students through academic supervision, assessment and pastoral care
  • Supervise student projects and practice learning where appropriate
  • Contribute to scholarly activity and the development of evidence-informed teaching
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and healthcare partners
  • Participate in recruitment activities such as open days and applicant interviews

You will play an important role in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that inspires students and prepares them for contemporary nursing practice.

You will be a registrant with the NMC and be passionate about nursing education and committed to delivering an excellent student experience.

You will be expected to actively engage with professional research/knowledge exchange and scholarship to support teaching activities and extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship and research to teaching. As well as the requisite academic and technical skills, the post holder will be required to evidence their ability to work as part of a team demonstrating skills in project and time management and a passion for teaching and learning.

Although desirable, prior experience of teaching in higher education is not essential. For those new to HE teaching, the University offers a PgC in Learning and Teaching for Higher Education.

Academic staff are expected to achieve Advance HE Fellowship within three years of appointment if not already held. The post is subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
