As part of its investment in Clinical Psychology, the School of Psychology is seeking to appoint colleagues to provide excellent teaching and supervision in this field.

We are seeking qualified Psychologists with experience in working in mental health services (e.g. Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists etc.) who have an interest in teaching and training future generations of mental health professionals. Applications are welcome from clinicians working in the private sector as well as in the NHS. We particularly welcome applications from candidates whose clinical interests complement our existing areas of academic expertise and who can also demonstrate their suitability to teach clinical content to psychology students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Applications to work on a part-time basis are warmly welcomed, since we acknowledge and support that some candidates may wish to continue clinical work alongside this role.

This is a particularly exciting time for the School of Psychology as we increase our practice based education provision. We are delivering major new initiatives in Clinical Psychology. These new developments are planned to improve local healthcare provision and open up careers for students of psychology. Including the Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Care and Neurowell. Furthermore, we are expanding and refreshing our clinical psychology provision at both BSc and MSc including an associate Psychologist apprenticeship scheme. The successful candidate would have a key role in these programmes and would join our expanding and enthusiastic clinical teaching team including our Tizard centre. The School of Psychology is already working in partnership with the University’s new Medical School and local NHS trusts in clinical, neuropsychological, and forensic contexts.

The successful candidate(s) will be involved in designing and delivering the new and enhanced provision in professional practice-based psychology (e.g. Clinical Psychology). The School of Psychology will provide the successful candidate with a competitive salary and a stimulating and supportive working environment.

As a Lecturer in Clinical Psychology you can expect to be involved in :

  • Contributing to the development of new teaching provision, which is focused on professional Clinical Psychology, including at MSc and BSc and apprenticeship.
  • Contributing to core teaching in translational psychology on Undergraduate and MSc Psychology programmes
  • Pro-actively contributing to administration in the School and to the existing collegial work environment; ensuring all administrative duties are carried out in an effective, efficient and timely manner
  • Challenging thinking, foster debate and reflective skills, and develop the ability of students to engage in critical discourse and rational thinking
  • Assessing the work and progress of students using appropriate methods and criteria, and provide constructive feedback

What will you bring to the role ?

  • A relevant teaching qualification (e.g., PGCHE); or willingness to obtain a PGCHE as part of the job
  • Up to date and advanced knowledge of clinical psychology
  • Experience of applying psychology in practice and in non-HEI settings (e.g., hospitals, clinics, prisons)
  • Experience of liaising with external agencies to advance research and teaching links, foster knowledge
  • Ability to provide high quality teaching within our clinical psychology programmes
  • Ability to supervise student research projects with a clinical psychology focus, with support from colleagues as needed
