The Opportunity
The Institute of Genetics and Cancer at the University of Edinburgh invites applications for a Lecturer in Computational Genomics to join its interdisciplinary and pioneering research environment. This post focuses on reproductive genomics and genomic medicine, particularly the computational interpretation of genomic variation associated with reproductive disorders.
You will collaborate directly with Professor Joris Veltman to establish an innovative and impactful research programme, integrating with wider Institute efforts in genomic data science, translational genomics, and clinical genetics.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead an independent research programme in computational genomics
- Collaborate with the Veltman Group on reproductive disorders and genomic medicine
- Generate high-impact publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Secure external research funding
- Supervise postgraduate researchers and contribute to postgraduate teaching
- Engage in public dissemination, knowledge exchange, and academic service

Your Skills and Attributes for Success
Essential:
- PhD in computational biology, genomics, or a related field (or near completion)
- Postdoctoral experience involving genomic data analysis
- Proven ability to improve variant detection and interpretation
- Strong publication track record
- Demonstrated ability to attract or contribute to external funding applications
Desirable:
- Experience with clinical or reproductive genomics datasets
- Teaching and supervision experience at undergraduate or postgraduate level
- Collaborative approach to team science
