Imagine working in an environment where you are at the forefront of Electronics and Computer Science, pursuing your research interests and inspiring the next generation with a boundary-pushing University.

You will be working in an environment where you have the freedom to pursue your research interests at the same time as inspiring the next generation of engineers and scientists. We have a long history of innovation in what we teach our students – and what they teach us. We have a strong interdisciplinary tradition, reflected in investments such as UKRI Centres for Doctoral Training innovating at the boundary between Electronics and AI with a focus on Sustainability, and the UK National Centre for Responsible AI. Our research environment is world-class with significant recent investments in research laboratories across AI, robotics, computer engineering and HCI. Recognised by Athena Swan Silver awards at both School and University levels, we are proud of the culture that underpins our exceptional reputation for research, enterprise, and teaching.

To support growth in the school, we are seeking to appoint two Lecturers (Assistant Professors) with expertise that complements our existing areas of strength. We would particularly welcome applicants whose expertise aligns with or complements that of our computer science research groups and associated degrees in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Engineering. You will contribute to our international research profile through world-leading research, build your research team by developing bids for funding, generate research impact, and support more junior colleagues in their careers. You will contribute to the development and delivery of the high-quality research-led education that we are so proud of and support our inclusive and collaborative culture.

To apply, you will need a PhD, or equivalent professional qualifications, with a strong publication record, and able to demonstrate delivery of research-led teaching in a manner that meaningfully engages students. It is essential that you have a track-record of innovative research in Computer Science and have a desire to build a strong research team with our support.

With a generous holiday allowance and additional university closure days we are committed to supporting our staff and open to a flexible working approach. We give consideration to applicants that wish to work flexibly and those who have taken a career break. View our Benefits Explained website for details.

We aim to create an environment where everyone can thrive and are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from candidates who are committed to helping us create an inclusive work environment. We particularly encourage applications from people who identify with one or more of the following: Black, Asian, a minority ethnic background, coming from a lower socio-economic background, LGBTQ+, a woman or having a disability as these identities are currently underrepresented in our working community.

Our comprehensive benefits package includes an onsite childcare facility, a contributory pension scheme, generous holiday allowance (44 days including 30 days annual leave, 8 public holidays and 6 University closure days), subsidised health and fitness facilities, a cycle-to-work scheme and a range of discounts.

We are committed to sustainability and being a globally responsible university and have been awarded the Platinum EcoAward.
