About the Department
The Department of Economics and Related Studies is a leading economics department with a strong global reputation. As one of the largest economics departments in the country, we offer a great diversity of research expertise and research-led teaching. Our academic community of staff, students, and visitors is intellectually vibrant and internationally oriented.
We are seeking to appoint several Lecturers in Economics and Related Studies, beginning in September 2026. The successful candidates will consolidate and extend the department’s international reputation within a world-class and vibrant research environment.
Role Description
You will be responsible for:
- Leading lectures and seminars for undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Supervising student research projects
- Setting and marking assessments/examinations
- Developing research objectives, projects, and proposals
- Carrying out individual or collaborative research projects
- Leading or contributing to the production of research outputs/outcomes
- Designing, developing, and delivering teaching across a range of modules and/or within a specific programme
- Undertaking administrative and managerial responsibilities as required
You will develop an outstanding research record, undertaking high-quality, innovative research and seeking to publish in leading international journals. Evidence of a research profile and publications is required.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- PhD or equivalent experience in Economics or a related discipline
- Appropriate academic professional and teaching qualifications, or willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice
- Ability to develop research objectives, projects, and proposals
- Well-developed analytical and IT skills
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including ability to contribute to publications and disseminate research findings
- Ability to deliver presentations at conferences or other professional events
- Ability to extend, transform, and apply knowledge from scholarship
- Experience designing teaching materials and delivering courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Ability to supervise MSc, PhD, or postdoctoral researchers
- Proven ability to contribute to high-quality, publicly evidenced research
- Experience in course planning, design, and delivery across multiple modules
- Evidence of dissemination of research findings through publications, presentations, public engagement, or other media
