Lecturer in Freshwater Ecology

The School for Field Studies (SFS) is seeking an enthusiastic, team-oriented individual to serve as a Lecturer in Freshwater Ecology at the Center for Environmental Justice and Mekong Ecologies in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This full-time position reports to the Center Director and Dean, Office of Academic Affairs, with a start date of January 5th, 2026.

Position Summary: The role involves delivering a 50-hour Freshwater Ecology course and co-teaching a 50-hour Directed Research course during fall and spring semesters. Faculty engage students through field-based, experiential learning, integrating fieldwork into courses. Responsibilities include active participation in community building, student life, and Center upkeep.

Duties and Responsibilities: Teach and co-teach specified courses, plan curriculum, supervise student research, maintain course materials, and participate in research activities. Additional duties include contributing to the Center’s Strategic Research Plan, community outreach, safety protocols, and daily Center life such as group management and administrative tasks.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or Master’s with significant scholarship in freshwater ecology, environmental science, or related fields; university-level teaching experience; fluency in English; field research experience; strong quantitative and statistical skills; commitment to inclusive learning environments; ability to work in interdisciplinary teams; research publications; and commitment to environmental issues.

Preferred Qualifications: Work authorization in Cambodia; experience in Southeast Asia, especially Cambodia; teaching field courses; residential student group management; proficiency in Khmer; cross-disciplinary collaboration; ability to operate vehicles; grant writing success; and current first aid certifications.

Compensation and Benefits: This is an academic year contract with possible annual renewal. Salary depends on experience and qualifications, including comprehensive benefits and on-site room and board.

Course Descriptions: Freshwater Ecology: Explores ecology of Cambodia’s Mekong River and Tonle Sap Lake, covering ecological processes and human dimensions. Directed Research: Applies methods to field research on local environmental issues, contributing to conservation decisions.
