  • Base salary will be in the range $114,824.05 - $136,048.72 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level B)

The School of Education at The University of Queensland is seeking a passionate and dedicated Lecturer in Indigenous Education to help shape how future teachers understand, value, and embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, perspectives, and voices in their classrooms.

As part of one of Australia’s leading education faculties, you’ll have the freedom and support to grow your own research in Indigenous Education while working alongside colleagues committed to reconciliation, educational equity, and the Queensland Commitment. You’ll also play an active role in the School’s Indigenous Engagement portfolio, building connections between students, educators, and communities through teaching, mentorship, and leadership.

If you’re passionate about advancing Indigenous Education, strengthening understanding between cultures, and empowering teachers to create more inclusive learning environments, this role offers a chance to make a genuine difference within a supportive and values-driven academic community.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching and Learning: Coordinate and deliver courses in Indigenous Education and related areas, contribute to curriculum development and program innovation, and support student learning through high-quality teaching, assessment, and feedback.
  • Research and Scholarship: Develop and maintain a productive research agenda in Indigenous Education, publish in high-quality journals, and actively pursue and manage external research funding opportunities.
  • Supervision and Mentoring: Supervise Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, foster researcher development, and contribute to a culturally safe and inclusive environment for Indigenous HDR students.
  • Citizenship and Service: Contribute to Indigenous Engagement initiatives within the School, provide academic leadership and mentorship, participate in committees and governance, and uphold UQ’s values through professional and collegial conduct.

About You

Applicants should possess a PhD in education or a related discipline. Additionally, you will demonstrate:

  • A growing profile in teaching and research related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education
  • A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
  • Evidence of successfully seeking and managing external research funding or contributing to externally funded projects.
  • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and/or postgraduate level, ideally in areas related to Indigenous education.
  • Experience in course coordination and contribution to curriculum development and design a in the discipline area.
  • A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.
  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia and education check
