Lecturer in International Relations Education

About the role

The Department of War Studies seeks to appoint a Lecturer in International Relations Education to contribute to the Department’s capacity for teaching and scholarship in international relations. The post is on the Academic Education Pathway (AEP) and focuses on the delivery of education, education-related scholarship, and leadership in education.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality, innovative undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the Department of War Studies, especially its BA and MA programmes in International Relations. We welcome candidates who are familiar with a broad range of theoretical approaches to international relations, conflict and security. In particular, we are looking for candidates who have expertise in contemporary global transformations and who can support our teaching in international relations and critical approaches to conflict and security. The successful candidate will work with students from a wide range of backgrounds and will be committed to enabling student success.

The postholder will also undertake and publish high-quality scholarship and play a role in the institutional and intellectual development of War Studies and undertake Departmental, School, Faculty and University administrative duties as required.

Appointments can only be made at Lecturer level. It will not be possible to make appointments at more senior grades, or to exceed the salary advertised.

This is a full time fixed-term post until September 2027

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. PhD awarded in International Relations
  2. Ability to deliver innovative and effective teaching to undergraduate and/or postgraduate students in the areas of international relations and critical approaches to conflict and security
  3. An emerging track record of publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals
  4. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  5. Excellent communication and presentation skills and proficiency in academic writing.
  6. Evidence of contribution to community building within a higher education setting
  7. For an appointment at Grade 7, candidates must have a PhD thesis published or in press as a monograph AND at least 2 papers published/in press in peer-reviewed; OR at least 5 research papers published/in press in high-quality peer reviewed journals. For an appointment at Grade 7, candidates must also show proven ability in and experience of academic leadership

Desirable criteria

  1. Expertise in contemporary global transformations
  2. Experience supervising UG/PGT dissertations
  3. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or on-track to receive fellowship in the next 1-2 years
  4. A track record of wider administrative contribution to the delivery of departmental activities
  5. Emerging track record in dissemination of teaching innovations and engagement with external bodies

Grade and Salary: £45,031 - £52,514 per annum including London Weighting Allowance
