Location: de Havilland Campus, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield

Main duties and responsibilities

We are seeking an applicant who will teach on legal experiential learning modules, especially Bar Pro Bono Experience, Access to Justice, Clinical Legal Education, and Life in the Law within the LLB, and LLM Bar programmes, and contribute to other modules as appropriate. You will assist and support Module Leaders on the LLB Programme.

You will work collegially as part of the School's teaching team, including off-campus student outreach and other recruitment activities such as open days where required. You will also work closely with the Associate Deans, Head of Department, and Programme Leaders in order to support teaching and learning initiatives and maintain the relevance and currency of the curriculum.

The Lecturer in Law will support the School’s growing research community to demonstrate potential to pursue a programme of research to a standard appropriate for consideration under the Research Excellence Framework (REF), including the ability to secure external funding opportunities.

You will contribute to the School’s academic and pastoral care of its students and to the enhancement of their learning, personal development and overall success, particularly through serving as a Personal Tutor.

Skills and experience required

You will have proven teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in legal experiential learning modules and relevant professional experience in the UK legal sector as a Paralegal, Solicitor, Barrister, or similar. Ideally you will have experience of designing or contributing to the design of engaging and intellectually stimulating modules which have professional or industry relevance and experience of teaching another foundation of legal knowledge subject.

You will possess the ability to use technology to enhance the quality and flexibility of delivery to students, and to promote the activities of the school’s students. Proficiency in English Language is critical, with good self-management and time management skills and excellent written and oral communication skills. A motivated approach to your work and to the work of the school within a business-facing University, together with a commitment to the ongoing development of teaching and learning skills (particularly the growing use of technology) is essential.

Qualifications required

You will be educated with a minimum of a Bachelors degree or equivalent qualification.
