participate in several major ERC, ESRC and AHRC projects, as well as awards from funding bodies such as the Wellcome and Leverhulme Trusts. The new colleague will take responsibility for research and teaching among a group of c. ten modern British historians whose extensive publications and major funded projects range from urban piety, gender and the industrial revolution, intellectual history, histories of conservatism, crime and emigration, urban history and consumption, histories of sexuality, humanitarianism and disability through to histories of Black Britons, and histories of extinction.

The new lecturer will make key contributions to furthering excellence in teaching and research of Modern British History nationally and globally, as well as within the Faculty of Humanities at Manchester. Applications are sought from candidates who have a proven international reputation in any area of the cultural, political, social and economic history of modern Britain and its relationship to the wider world. Candidates with expertise in any area of Modern British History are encouraged to apply but we particularly welcome applications with backgrounds in histories of gender and sexuality, politics and political culture, cultural history and imperial histories. The successful candidate will also contribute to teaching at all levels in History and to MA and PhD supervision.
