About the opportunity

The School of Psychology at the University of Sydney is seeking applications from exceptional candidates for two Lecturers. The School welcomes applications from any field in Psychology, particularly those aligned to the School's existing strengths. The successful candidates will contribute to enhancing the School's research and teaching profile.

The School of Psychology consistently ranks among the best in the world. In the most recent QS World University Rankings, the School ranked in the Top 4 Psychology departments in Australia and the Top 40 in the world, with the University of Sydney ranking in the Top 25 universities in the world.

The School is one of eight Schools in the Faculty of Science and has a global reputation for its outstanding research and teaching, with strengths in Experimental Psychology (e.g., perception, learning, cognition), Behavioural and Cognitive Neuroscience (e.g., animal models, neural systems, computational modelling), Applied Psychology (e.g., health, coaching, social, individual differences), and Clinical Psychology (e.g., adult and child mental health, aging/dementia, addiction). The School delivers world-class education across programmes at all levels: Bachelor, Graduate Diploma in Psychology, Honours, Master of Clinical Psychology, Master of Science in Coaching Psychology and Higher Degree Research tracks (PhD, MPhil). The School is very well-resourced and is renowned for its supportive environment, where success comes from collaboration and mentoring among our staff. About you

The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Lecturer in Psychology who has:

  • a PhD in Psychology or a closely related discipline
  • a sustained record of independently conducting high-quality research that builds on and/or supports the School's existing strengths, including publishing research in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals
  • experience in submitting applications for nationally and/or internationally competitive research funding (e.g., ARC/NHRMC/MRFF) and/or for industry/stakeholder-linked funding
  • a record of establishing an independent research programme and developing a successful research team, including national and/or international collaborations
  • experience in providing outstanding research training (e.g., honours/PhD)
  • a sound experience of teaching and learning, and the ability to contribute to teaching at undergraduate, honours and post graduate levels in lecture, tutorial, seminars and other educational settings in various areas of psychology
  • high levels of communication and organisational skills relevant to managing research and teaching
  • the capacity to contribute to governance, leadership, and engagement within the School and across the broader University
  • the ability to work collaboratively with other academic and professional staff, including fostering and enhancing principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
