We invite applications from highly qualified and enthusiastic Lecturers in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology to teach on our Science Foundation Year. The successful candidates will contribute to an engaging, supportive, and academically excellent pathway that prepares students for competitive university admissions, including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, biomedical sciences, engineering, and other science-based degrees.

You will teach small cohorts (maximum 20 students), providing personalised instruction and high-quality academic support to ensure students meet the standards required for progression to their chosen universities.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, workshops, and laboratory-based sessions (where applicable) in the relevant discipline.
  • Develop and update teaching content aligned with programme learning outcomes and university progression requirements.
  • Use pedagogically sound methods to engage learners from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Prepare students for assessment standards aligned with UK higher education expectations, including scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and academic literacy.
  • Conduct formative and summative assessments, including exam design, marking, and providing constructive academic feedback.

Student Development and Support

  • Provide academic mentoring to help students successfully progress to competitive universities, including Russell Group institutions.
  • Support students preparing for medical and health-related pathways, ensuring they meet subject-specific competencies.
  • Guide students in developing strong study skills, research skills, and scientific communication.

Curriculum Design and Quality Assurance

  • Contribute to curriculum development to ensure alignment with UK and international university progression pathways.
  • Participate in internal moderation, quality assurance processes, and annual programme reviews.
  • Maintain up-to-date subject knowledge and engage in continuous professional development.

Professional Engagement

  • Attend departmental meetings, training sessions, and institutional committees as required.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Contribute to the broader academic community and uphold the values of Veritas Pathways.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or a closely related scientific discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience teaching at FE, foundation, or university level.
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts effectively.
  • Experience working with learners progressing to STEM or medical-related degrees.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • PhD in the relevant discipline (strongly preferred).
  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, FHEA) or willing to do it within 6 months.
  • Experience teaching international students or students entering competitive medical pathways.
  • Familiarity with Russell Group and UK university admissions expectations.

Personal Attributes

  • Commitment to educational excellence and student success.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Dedication to inclusive, equitable, and culturally sensitive teaching.
