About the Job
We are seeking a Lecturer in Sport & Exercise Science to contribute to teaching, research, and programme development across our undergraduate and postgraduate provision. The post holder will play a key role in delivering innovative, inclusive, and student-centred teaching, while also contributing to curriculum development, applied research, and external engagement with professional partners.
Working as part of a supportive academic team, the post holder will support student learning and progression, contribute to the department’s research and knowledge exchange agenda, and enhance the impact and reputation of Sport & Exercise Science at UEL.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and delivering high-quality teaching and learning activities across sport and exercise science programmes.
- Acting as an academic advisor, supporting student progression, retention, and success.
- Contributing to curriculum development and leading modules in line with experience.
- Developing an independent or collaborative research profile and contributing to applied research and knowledge exchange activities.
- Engaging in professional practice and working collaboratively across disciplines and with external partners.
About You
You will be a motivated and collaborative academic with a strong interest in sport and exercise science education and a clear commitment to student success. You will hold a degree in Sport Science or a closely related discipline and have experience teaching undergraduate students within the UK higher education sector. You will demonstrate a strong understanding of inclusive and student-centred teaching approaches, alongside evidence of research activity or clear potential to develop a strong research profile.
Excellent communication, organisational, IT, and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to contribute positively to a dynamic academic environment. Experience of teaching or supervising postgraduate students, possession of a PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline, membership of a professional body such as BASES, and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (or willingness to work towards it) would be advantageous.
