The role

The School of Geographical Sciences is seeking to appoint a Lecturer to develop pedagogic leadership in sustainable development and urban studies. The ideal candidate will have experience of delivering lectures, seminar-based teaching, and project-based learning to both undergraduate and PGT students. The role holder will deliver teaching across the School’s education programme from year 1 through MSc. The successful candidate will become a member of the new Planetary Urban Sciences Lab (+Lab) and join a thriving interdisciplinary environment within the School, which hosts research groups dedicated to political, economic, social and environmental themes, as well as advanced spatial methods.

What will you be doing?

The successful candidate will lead the teaching on the Year 1 Sustainable Development unit and will contribute to UG and PGT units on urban inequality and urban sustainability. The successful candidate will be expected to support and contribute to students across the curriculum, including in field courses, tutorial and pastoral care, and dissertation supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels utilising both quantitative and qualitative methods. In line with the role of Pathway 3 Lecturer they will also be expected to engage in pedagogic development, both in the School and across the institution through the University’s CREATE scheme.

You should apply if

The successful candidate will have experience with research-led teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels in the fields of sustainable development and urban studies. Previous experience of supervising student research projects using quantitative and qualitative geography methods is also desirable.
