The History subject in the College of Arts and Humanities is seeking to appoint a Research and Teaching Track Lecturer in the History of Intelligence and International Relations on an open-ended basis. The post-holder will undertake field-leading research in the field of Intelligence and International Relations in the period after 1850, and provide high-quality teaching and administrative service in a range of roles.

In any given year the post-holder can expect to be asked to contribute a mix of the following teaching activities:

  • Seminar teaching and lectures to at least one of our pre-Honours (Level 1 and 2) modules
  • A 60-credit fourth-year special subject across the entire academic year
  • 1 to 2 20-credit Honours modules for a class of up to 36 students,
  • Provide UG/PG dissertation supervision
  • PGT teaching (either as part of a team or as an individual)

A core expectation of the post-holder will be to provide engaging and high-recruiting teaching on modern military and/or diplomatic history.

The post-holder will have specific responsibility for co-teaching History’s semester 1 course, ā€˜Intelligence Analysis and Policymaking’, on the Erasmus Mundus International Masters in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies (IMSISS), which recruits between 45 and 80 students annually (for further details see: www.gla.ac.uk/postgraduate/taught/internationalsecurity). The post-holder may also supervise dissertations and other assessed work for IMSISS, by agreement with the Head of Subject.

The post-holder will be expected to take a leadership role in the Scottish Centre for War Studies and Conflict Archaeology, and to convene our own MSc programme in War Studies and its core course (for further details see: www.gla.ac.uk/research/az/warstudies/)

The postholder will be expected to pursue their own research as a third of their contracted time.
