About this opportunity
We are looking for an experienced lecturer to teach into the undergraduate and postgraduate programs in veterinary science and veterinary technology, with a focus on production animal veterinary science. This includes veterinary medicine and surgery, herd health, husbandry and handling, nutrition, and reproduction for the major production animal species.
As a teaching-focused position, leadership in curriculum development and alignment is expected, along with innovation in teaching and assessment design and delivery.
Key responsibilities will include
Teaching
- Design and deliver engaging, evidence-based curriculum using diverse teaching methods for undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary programs.
- Coordinate courses; prepare and teach lectures, tutorials, and practicals; and design effective assessment tasks.
- Collaborate with educational partners and stakeholders to promote effective teaching and ensure courses are engaging, relevant, and contemporary.
- Ensure course quality through evaluations, alignment with industry and educational standards, and support students academically.
- Stay updated within the discipline and engage in ongoing professional learning to enhance teaching practices and maintain curriculum relevance.
- Understand and apply relevant university rules and policies in teaching, ensuring compliance with institutional standards.
Research
- Option to combine discipline-related expertise (veterinary science with a focus on production animals) and scholarship of teaching and learning to support educational research with teaching impact.
- Develop new or improved approaches to quality pedagogical practices and activities that are innovative, documented, and peer-reviewed.
- Actively seek funding to support projects and activities promoting improved pedagogies.
- Publish in high-quality peer-reviewed outlets and other appropriate publications.
- Begin developing a national profile in teaching innovation.
Supervision and researcher development
- Demonstrate a developing track record of achievement in supervision outcomes for honours, coursework, or HDR students and junior staff.
- Engage in responsible conduct of research (where applicable).
- Facilitate development opportunities for supervisees (where applicable).
Citizenship and service
- Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative duties, support colleagues, and uphold university values.

About you
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- A degree in veterinary science or equivalent, registrable in Queensland (equivalent foreign qualifications may be considered).
- A research qualification (Master’s or PhD) in veterinary science or a related field.
- Desirable: educational qualifications such as graduate certificates, diplomas, or fellowships.
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in production animal veterinary science or dairy herd health.
- Evidence of quality university teaching at 'Day One' competency level in veterinary science or general practice.
- A developing profile of teaching impact and/or clinical education research with quality outputs.
- Involvement in curriculum, pedagogy, or assessment improvement projects, including those with funding.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate on teaching and learning.
- A professional profile that complements the school’s and university’s expertise.

About the selection process
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to present a mini-research seminar and mock lecture to the school community prior to their interview. Topics will be provided with sufficient notice.
