POSITION SUMMARY

The Lecturer is expected to contribute to the teaching and research efforts of the University, in disciplines related to their field of expertise. Specifically, the Lecturer is responsible for carrying out teaching activities within undergraduate, Masters and Graduate Diploma programs and for maintaining and advancing their scholarly, research and/or professional capabilities. The Lecturer is also expected to actively promote the program by establishing and maintaining memberships, links and partnerships with academic, industry and professional communities. The Lecturer is expected to work collaboratively and collegially with fellow academics within the teaching team, and update colleagues and students on developments in their subject area or specialisation. The Lecturer may be responsible for course coordination.

Key Accountabilities summary

  • Undertake independent teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level including: designing, conducting and moderating assessment; implementing improvements informed by course evaluation activities and student feedback.
  • Undertake independent professional activities, scholarship and/or conduct high quality research activities appropriate to the profession or discipline including: managing individual projects within timelines and budgets and ensuring compliance with quality and reporting requirements; publishing research results in high quality outlets as lead or co-author; preparing and submitting external research funding applications; and supervising higher degree by research candidates.
  • Undertake administration duties, which may include course coordination role or management of a small award program.

Key Selection Criteria

  • PhD in Law or equivalent relevant Doctoral qualification.
  • Strong interdisciplinary research and teaching background particularly in relation to the intersection of law and emerging technologies such as Blockchain, AI, and Big Data.
  • Proven experience in teaching various aspects including contract law, tort law, consumer protection law, as well as company and finance law
  • Emerging/Established track record and recognition for quality research outputs
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including online delivery and, the ability to produce high quality curriculum or program materials
  • Demonstrated experience or ability to undertake course coordination role.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with and to negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration within and across campuses;
  • Ability to build or demonstrate ability to build, successful networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.
  • Recent and sustained performance regarding student outcomes, student experience and feedback; combined with experience and skill in a range of teaching settings.

Expected Research profile

To be considered for a lecturer position at RMIT Vietnam in The Business School, you will need to be able to meet the following research criteria.

  • For candidates with a PhD awarded within the last 3 years (Early Career Academic), although there are no requirements you are expected to be research active.
  • For candidates with a PhD awarded within the last 3- 5 years there are requirements of peer reviewed journal articles published within the previous five-year window, you need to be active in relevant research areas.
  • For candidates with a PhD awarded more than 5 years ago: you will be expected to demonstrate a minimum of 2 peer reviewed journal articles, of which must be ranked in Scimago or ABDC and preferably both in Q1/A ranking or equivalent, within the previous five-year window.

To be considered for a Senior Lecturer position and above, The Business School operates a research active points system. Points are earned across a spectrum of research within a prior three-year window. Candidates for higher level positions will be considered against these criteria for shortlisting.

English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS (Academic) with a score of at least 7.0 with no competency less than 6.5 (or equivalent, as outlined in the Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding Guidelines).
