Lecturer, Library and Information Science
The Indiana University Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering in Indianapolis invites applications for one full-time lecturer-track faculty position in the Department of Library and Information Science. The appointment will begin August 1, 2026. This 10-month appointment is annually renewable, based upon satisfactory performance. Summer month teaching opportunities exist as well.
A committed educator is sought to join our department on the Indianapolis campus. We are interested in candidates with one or more of the following areas of expertise:
- Emerging Technologies in Libraries and Archives
- Educational Technology
- Technology in Support of Information Organization and Systems
Candidates must have experience effectively teaching in an online environment and five or more years of professional (industry) experience in one or more areas of expertise listed above. A deep understanding of career opportunities in the information professions and a passion for graduate student mentoring for academic and professional success is necessary. We especially welcome candidates who bring direct experience or novel approaches to incorporating generative AI (and related tools) to enhance student learning.
Required Qualifications
- ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree
- 5+ years of professional experience related to one or more of the above listed areas of expertise
- Knowledge of pedagogical theory and state-of-the-art practice
- Documented effective teaching at the graduate level
- An ability to adapt and diversify pedagogy for changing methodologies, technologies, and student needs
- A commitment to departmental and school service, especially when and where curriculum development and instruction are key concerns
- A willingness to lead pedagogical and assessment initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous instructional experience in higher education
Responsibilities
Full-time lecturer-track faculty commit to a balanced workload of teaching and service, which includes:
- Teach graduate courses in the LIS department; typically, four course section/equivalents per semester and 3-5 different courses per academic year
- Supervise independent studies
- Mentor graduate students
- Contribute to course and curriculum development
- Contribute to the department, school and campus level, and the professional community through service
This is an in-person faculty appointment requiring full-time on-campus presence.
