Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

You will contribute to the teaching, postgraduate supervision, and administration requirements of the Faculty, maintain and develop original scholarship and research, and undertake professional, community, iwi service and activities relevant to the profession and discipline of Māori and Indigenous Studies. Ideally, your research area supports your teaching expertise, and vice versa.

Salary will be in the range of $99,162 - $102,178 per year, based on the skills, knowledge, experience, and qualifications brought to the position. This is a full-time, permanent role (37.5 hours a week) based at our Hillcrest Campus.

Ko wai koe? - Who are you?

If you have a passion for teaching and nurturing students on their education pathways, then this is the position for you! Your friendly but professional personality will shine as you engage with students, sharing your knowledge, experiences, and innovations to make their learning experiences fun and enjoyable.

You are an excellent communicator and preferably have proficiency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga. You will be experienced in building and maintaining relationships with others as an effective team member who happily contributes to collective activities and is confident to lead when required.

You are flexible and able to adapt to 'life is like a box of chocolates' situations on a daily basis. You will have strong computer skills and sound knowledge of Microsoft Office. Previous experience working with students in a tertiary environment would be advantageous.

Ko wai mātou? - Who are we?

Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao, the Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies, exists as a faculty in its own right. It offers a wide range of exciting programmes that build on tradition while responding to contemporary issues, using innovative, creative, and adaptable teaching underpinned by strong intellectual engagement and research expertise. Academic staff are respected leaders in their fields, holding iwi/Māori, national, and international profiles.

Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao currently offers majors in Te Reo Māori and Māori and Indigenous Studies, with a minor in Pacific and Indigenous Studies. We offer papers that lead towards the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Climate Change, and the Bachelor of Social Sciences. The Faculty also offers the Bachelor of Arts with Honours, Master of Arts, Master of Social Sciences, PhD programmes, as well as other certificates and diplomas.
