Job Description
The Department of Health Sciences in the College of Health Professions at Coppin State University is seeking a dedicated educator for a 12-month instructor position. The successful candidate will join the HSC instructional team, taking responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a curriculum designed for diverse learners. We are looking for candidates with expertise in healthcare delivery and the social/cultural factors impacting quality of life among marginalized populations. This role includes significant responsibilities in student advising, curriculum development, and institutional service.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses across various schedules (day, evening, weekend, and online). Design and evaluate curriculum using innovative pedagogical methods and interactive platforms to engage adult learners.
- Integrate simulation, case-based learning, and experiential activities into the curriculum. Facilitate service-learning opportunities and community-engaged projects.
- Participating in all School of Allied Health course team planning meetings and selected subcommittee within School of Allied Health and College of Health Professions; Participating actively in University, College, School and Community service and Activities.
- Maintain ongoing scholarship and professional growth within health science disciplines. Remain current on industry trends to strengthen allied health specializations.
- Provide academic counseling and guidance to Health Sciences students and hold at minimum six (6) posted office hours per week on at least two different days.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Doctorate (Ph.D, EdD, DrPH or related) in Health Sciences, Public Health, Exercise Science, Rehabilitation Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Master's in a health sciences-related field with relevant professional or clinical experience (ABD candidates will be considered)
EXPERIENCE
- Experience communicating complex health information to diverse audiences (e.g., students, patients, trainees, community groups).
- Strong team and collaboration skills
- Interest in supporting students pursuing careers in health professions.
- Experience communicating health-related concepts in academic, clinical, community, or professional settings.
- Prior teaching or training experience (e.g., classroom instruction, clinical training, mentoring, or workshops) is preferred but not required.
- Candidates must demonstrate the ability to explain and apply health science concepts (e.g., disease processes, terminology, or health assessment) to undergraduate-level learners)
- Familiarity with healthcare delivery systems. Healthcare structures, or patient care environments is preferred.
- Ongoing maintenance of personal scholarship.
- Assist the Department in strengthening its health sciences curriculum with teaching responsibilities that enhance allied health specializations.
- Contribute to the Department's core and elective curriculum for the major and general education offerings, as well as cross-disciplinary curricula.
- Participate in Department duties, such as committee work, student advising, student recruitment, ongoing training in andragogy, and curriculum development.
- Engage actively in the life and success of the Department and the College.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must manage multiple tasks and set priorities independently.
- Possess strong oral/written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Evaluate and implement curriculum, teaching and advising traditional and non-traditional learners.
- Integrating technology and alternative instruction delivery systems in the teaching-learning process.
Conditions of Employment
- Operate a personal computer and audio-visual equipment.
- Stand or sit for up to one to three hours at a time.
- Fly or drive to off-site meetings or conferences or observe project subjects. Move around campus for classes and meetings.
