The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is a premier educational institution that prides itself on academic excellence, research, and community engagement and is actively seeking qualified Lecturers in the Department of Counseling and Human Services, Military Leader Development, to join our team!
Pay Range: $4,000 per 3-credit hour course. Courses with low enrollment (less than 12 students) may be canceled. This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.
Work Location: Determined by course modality: Hybrid.
*This position is open only to Colorado state residents or those that intend to reside in the state of Colorado while employed by UCCS.
Summary
This position will teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses in the Department of Counseling and Human Services Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Cohort and/or the Academy Military Training (AMT) Leader and Leadership Development Certification Program. Possible courses include, Characteristics of the Effective Leader, Leading Teams and Organizations, Leading Diversity, College Student Development, Counseling and Helping Skills, Ethics and Character Development, Mental Health Triage and First Aid, Research and Statistics, Group Dynamics and Group Leadership, College Teaching and Learning, Theories of Motivation and Behavior Change, and Practicum/Internship. Classes primarily meet in-person on-campus at UCCS or at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA).
Essential Functions
- Teach assigned course in assigned course modality
- Develop syllabus for course using College of Education accessible course template
- Complete necessary trainings as determined by Department, College, and/or University
- Develop, maintain, and utilize Canvas shell for duration of the course
- Ensure Canvas shell meets accessibility standards
- Assess student assignments and submit final grades by deadline in Canvas and CU-SIS
- Inform program faculty director and/or department chair of student issues and concerns in a timely manner
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Counseling or a closely related field is required
- Professional experience in the specific course content area is required
- Prior experience with military populations is highly desirable
- Prior experience teaching or working with the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) or similar higher education settings is highly desirable
- Holding a certification as a Board-Certified Coach (BCC) or credentials by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) is highly desirable
- The ideal candidate has a terminal degree in Counselor Education and Supervision, Counseling and Psychology, Educational Leadership, Organization Psychology, or closely related field
