The School for Studies in Art and Culture invites applications for a one-year appointment at the rank of Lecturer/Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, beginning 1 July 2026, from qualified candidates engaged in Film Studies.
The candidate will be expected to teach 6 semester-length undergraduate courses, 3 of which will be Introduction to Film Studies (in the fall, winter, and early summer term), 3 will be on topics related to the successful candidate’s research interests and expertise.
We encourage applications from candidates from groups underrepresented in Film Studies.
About the Academic UnitCarleton University’s Film Studies program is located within the School for Studies in Art and Culture, which also houses programs in Music and Art and Architectural History. The Film Studies program offers a BA and an MA in Film Studies. Faculty members have research expertise in multiple fields, with an emphasis on the history and theory of cinema, digital media and game studies, media aesthetics, transnational film cultures, and critical feminist, race, and sexuality studies. QualificationsThe position requires a PhD or PhD near completion by the appointment’s start in Film Studies or in related fields. Demonstrated teaching excellence or demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching contributions is required as well as a strong ability to contribute to the academic life of the unit.
