At the University of East London (UEL), our mission is to prepare students for the careers of the future while shaping that future inclusively and sustainably. As a careers-first university, we believe education and opportunity should be open to all, and that diversity of people and thought is essential to solving society’s biggest challenges.

About the School and Institute

The Royal Docks School of Business & Law is a vibrant and contemporary learning community based in East London’s dynamic Docklands.

Within this, the Institute of Hospitality & Tourism (IoHT) delivers innovative, industry-relevant education across hospitality, tourism and aviation. Our programmes are designed in collaboration with industry partners to address real workforce challenges and prepare graduates for global careers.

As part of our growth, we are expanding our aviation portfolio to include programmes such as BSc Air Transport Management and BA Airline and Airport Management, integrating aviation with tourism and hospitality.

You will join an inclusive, interdisciplinary academic community that values creativity, collaboration and practice-based learning.

About the Role

We are seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Aviation & Tourism Management to contribute to the delivery and development of our growing aviation portfolio.

This role is ideal for someone with strong aviation sector expertise, whether from industry or academia, who is passionate about sharing their knowledge with the next generation of aviation and tourism professionals.

You will:

  • Deliver engaging teaching across aviation and related tourism modules
  • Contribute to module and (at senior level) course leadership
  • Integrate real-world industry insight into teaching and assessment
  • Support student success through supervision, mentoring and academic advising
  • Build and maintain relationships with aviation industry partners (airlines, airports, regulators)
  • Contribute to research, scholarship or professional engagement

At Senior Lecturer level, you will also contribute to curriculum development, industry partnerships, and strategic initiatives across the Institute.

What You’ll Need to Thrive

You will thrive in this role if you bring credible aviation expertise either through substantial industry experience or academic specialism combined with a passion for student success and inclusive teaching.

For candidates from an academic background, a PhD and master’s degree in a relevant field are essential. For those from an industry background, a master’s degree and/or significant professional experience in aviation or a closely related field is required, with a PhD welcomed but not essential.

You will be confident translating complex industry concepts into engaging learning, with an understanding of how aviation connects to tourism and the wider visitor economy. Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to build relationships with industry partners will be key to success.

Benefits Package

At UEL, we believe that a great role is about more than just a salary. It’s about the complete package, including our outstanding work environment and inclusive culture.

We offer a genuinely competitive salary, dependent on experience (DOE), and a range of excellent benefits.
