Lecturer - Physics
Job Summary
The College of Arts & Sciences seeks a Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses in first-year physics sequences and their corresponding labs. The position may also be called upon to teach in the advanced physics labs including use of the machine shop. As the primary instructor for physics labs, the successful candidate will coordinate lab activities and continue edits of the lab manuals. This non-tenure track faculty position, based in the Department of Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy, is a 10-month academic year position.
Responsibilities
- Faculty - Teaching/Instructing -
- Full-time instructional load teaching (5 courses) in areas of expertise within the academic discipline
- Regular course meetings and instruction
- Mentoring Students
- Ability to maintain internally developed Physics and Astronomy lab materials and resources.
- Maintenance and weekly set up of equipment for either the Astronomy or Physics laboratories.
- Other teaching responsibilities
- Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.
- Faculty also contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses. All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.
- Faculty - Service to Institution -
- All faculty are expected to help the department in recruiting majors. Faculty members are expected to attend Department meetings and events.
- Faculty - Professional Development -
- Faculty are expected to stay current in their field.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Terminal degree in a closely related field. Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements as stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials)).

Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience in Physics and Astronomy at the college level. Ability to maintain internally developed Physics and Astronomy lab materials and resources. Well versed in best practices in assessing student learning.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
Experience supervising laboratory assistants. Experience with electronics. Experience with machining equipment use. Experience with welding.
