Lecturer Pool - Earth & Planetary Science - College of Letters & Science
The Department of Earth & Planetary Science at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach Earth and Planetary Science courses.
Position Overview: Position title: Lecturer. Salary range: The full-time salary range for this position is $68,247 - $192,040. Percent time: 11% for Summer; 17%-100% for Semester and AY appointments. Anticipated start: AY appointments start 7/1; Fall appointments start 8/1; Spring appointments start 1/1; Summer Sessions start May, June or July. Position duration: Semester, Academic Year, or Summer Sessions.
Duties: Instructors of Record include teaching, holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), developing exams and/or quizzes, supervising GSIs, scheduling field trips, participating in field trips, maintaining a course budget, and maintaining a course website. Lecturers in-lieu-of-GSIs lead discussion sections, field trips, labs, or instruction of prescribed course content under the active direction and supervision of the instructor of record.
Qualifications: Basic qualifications: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent international degree) by the time of application. Additional qualifications: Master's degree (or equivalent international degree) by the start of the appointment, eligibility to work in the United States, demonstrated/potential for teaching excellence, and record of accomplishment in scholarship, service, and professional activity. Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) in Earth Sciences, experience teaching college-level courses, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and experience teaching fieldwork for some classes.
