"Lecturer Pool German"

The Department of German at UC Berkeley seeks applications for a pool of qualified lecturers to teach German courses in areas such as:

• German language courses (of various levels)
• Reading and Composition (first- and second-year undergraduate writing courses in English on German topics)
• Upper-level courses in translation and multilingualism, German literature, and contemporary Germany (e.g., migration, nationalism, media, and popular culture)

In addition to instruction, general duties include holding office hours, developing syllabi and assignments, writing and grading exams, and grading and commenting on papers. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary.

Position overview
Salary range: A reasonable estimate for this position is $64,329 - $74,576. See the salary scale for details: UC academic salary scales.
Percent time: Positions range from 33% to 100% each semester. Summer positions are 11%.
Anticipated start: Positions usually start at the beginning of the semester (mid-January for Spring, mid-August for Fall). Summer appointments begin in late May and run into early August.
Review timeline: Appointments for summer and Fall are reviewed in February/March; for Spring in October/November.
Position duration: Appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis and may be renewable based on needs, funding, and performance.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications: Completed master's degree (or equivalent).
Additional qualifications: Legal work permit in the United States by start date.
Preferred qualifications: Native or near-native fluency in German and English; college-level teaching experience in the U.S.; demonstrated excellence in teaching for language instruction; experience teaching reading and writing in English for R&C instruction; expertise in German language, literature, and culture for literature/culture instruction.
