Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Join us in shaping the future of Literacy Education!

The Division of Education at the University of Waikato invites applications for a role in Literacy Education. If you're passionate about transforming how literacy is taught, learned, and understood in Aotearoa New Zealand, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution.

In this role, you will help shape educational practice through research-informed teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You'll engage at the forefront of literacy learning and teacher education, contributing to innovative approaches that support diverse learners and communities.

We are especially interested in candidates with strong expertise in Literacy Education across varied learning contexts.

We are seeking a dynamic academic who combines strong scholarly capability with professional experience. You will join a collegial team committed to excellence in teaching (both face-to-face and online), research, postgraduate supervision, and meaningful engagement with schools, communities, and iwi.

The successful applicant will be expected to maintain and further develop a high-quality programme of original research and scholarship in literacy education, alongside active involvement in professional, community, and service activities relevant to the field.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, your established research profile will contribute to building research capacity within the Division, fostering strategic cross- and inter-disciplinary research initiatives, and strengthening community-engaged research partnerships. As a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor, you will demonstrate academic leadership through mentorship, guidance, and support of colleagues, contributing to the development and progression of academic staff.

The level of appointment will be determined based on the successful candidate's relevant skills, knowledge, and experience. The salary range is $96,153 to $110,407 for a Lecturer, $113,428 to $148,799 per year for a Senior Lecturer, or $150,661 to $166,176 per year for an Associate Professor. This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week), based at our Hamilton Campus.
