Why this role matters

As we continue to grow our Indigenous workforce and strengthen Indigenous leadership across the University, we are seeking an outstanding Indigenous professional or academic to join the Faculty of Engineering.
Depending on your qualifications, skills, experience, and career aspirations, appointment may be made at Lecturer (Level B), Senior Lecturer (Level C), Associate Professor (Level D), or Professor (Level E) level. Applicants interested in a leadership appointment may also be considered for a part-time Associate Dean role alongside an academic appointment.
Importantly, engineering expertise is not a prerequisite for this opportunity. We welcome candidates who bring demonstrated Indigenous leadership, cultural knowledge, lived experience, community connection, student engagement expertise, curriculum development experience, or broader professional expertise.

About the Associate Dean Opportunity
For candidates interested in faculty leadership, the Associate Dean appointment is available for up to two years, with the possibility of renewal.
The Associate Dean role will be offered on a part-time basis at 2 days per week (0.4 FTE), to be agreed with the successful candidate. Where applicable, this can be combined with a continuing academic appointment involving teaching, research, or other academic responsibilities.
The role will provide leadership in advancing Indigenous initiatives, embedding Indigenous knowledges, strengthening student success, building community partnerships, and contributing to the Faculty's strategic priorities.
Who we're looking for
We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate some combination of:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity, cultural knowledge, lived experience, and community connection.
- Leadership experience in higher education, education, community, government, industry, not-for-profit, or related sectors.
- A passion for advancing Indigenous student success, engagement, and participation.
- Experience developing programs, initiatives, curriculum, partnerships, or community-led outcomes.
- Strong relationship-building, consultation, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to translate vision into meaningful outcomes.
- Experience in teaching, research, curriculum development, leadership, or professional practice is valued but not essential.
- A PhD, Masters by Research, or equivalent professional, leadership, community, and/or lived experience is welcomed.
